Affiliate Disclosure
Plain English: some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through them, the merchant pays us a small commission. It costs you nothing. We only recommend things we'd recommend to a family member.
The legal part
In compliance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising," we disclose the following:
The Outcast Library participates in affiliate programs with Amazon Services LLC, EcoFlow, Jackery, Goal Zero, Bay Alarm Medical, MobileHelp, Mountain House, Augason Farms, Berkey Filters, and other merchants. When you click an affiliate link on this site and make a purchase, the merchant may pay us a commission at no additional cost to you.
The Amazon affiliate program requires the following exact disclosure: "As an Amazon Associate, The Outcast Library earns from qualifying purchases."
How we choose what to recommend
Every product listed on the Recommended Gear page meets at least one of these criteria:
- It is mentioned, reviewed, or used in one of Offended Outcast's videos
- It is a category the creator has consistently endorsed (portable power stations, medical alert systems, water filtration, emergency food, etc.)
- It is a product that directly addresses a pain point the audience has expressed
We do not accept affiliate partnerships from:
- Reverse mortgage companies
- Debt consolidation or debt settlement services
- Payday lenders or cash advance companies
- "Senior deals" clickbait networks
- Cryptocurrency or investment products
- Multi-level marketing (MLM) schemes
- Anything that targets older Americans with predatory practices
This is a hard rule, not a preference. We will lose revenue before we list a bad product.
Do affiliate links change what you pay?
No. Affiliate commissions come out of the merchant's marketing budget, not your pocket. You pay exactly what you would have paid without clicking through our link — sometimes less, because some affiliate programs include automatic discount codes.
How to spot affiliate links on this site
Every affiliate link on this site has the HTML attribute rel="sponsored", which browsers and search engines recognize as a paid or compensated link. You can see this by hovering or right-clicking any link. The Recommended Gear page lists all our affiliate relationships explicitly.
